Soothe Me (SOLD)

“Soothe Me” is a visual jazz composition in its own right, where cool blues and greens dominate the canvas like the echoes of the final notes of a jazz set played at dawn in mid-century New York. The piece evokes a sense of tranquility, a reflective moment after a night of lively improvisation. The sweeping, abstract forms cascade over the smooth, flowing transitions of a guitar solo winding down. The occasional pops of yellow—like the lingering warmth of brass instruments—suggest that the energy of the night hasn’t fully dissipated, but rather softened into a mellow, contemplative mood.

Pastine skillfully blends the colorway with soft, almost imperceptible boundaries, reminiscent of the way one jazz chord melts into another. There is a subtle rhythm to the painting’s composition, where the interplay of colors feels as spontaneous and fluid as the musician riffing off of a familiar melody. The abstract shapes hint at cityscapes and structures, but they remain dreamlike and suggestive, allowing the viewer’s imagination to fill in the blanks.

“Soothe Me” offers a calming yet dynamic energy, where the excitement of the night gives way to the serenity of early morning (a favorite hour for Pastine, it seems). It invites the viewer into a space that feels both expansive and intimate, where the city is quiet, but the memory of music still hangs in the air. The artwork is a celebration of the contrast between night and dawn, sound and silence, vibrancy and calm—a meditative experience captured in color and form.
